The MG ECU located in the w/ converter inverter assembly uses the temperature sensor that is built into the w/ converter inverter assembly to detect the generator inverter temperature. The inverter cooling system is the same as that for the Motor or Generator, and operates independently of the engine cooling system. The characteristics of the generator inverter temperature sensor are the same as those of the boost converter temperature sensor. The MG ECU limits the load based on signals sent from the generator inverter temperature sensor in order to check the effect of the inverter cooling system and prevent overheating. Furthermore, the ECU detects malfunctions in the wiring of the generator inverter temperature sensor, as well as in the sensor.
