Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Lexus RX 400h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACCEL POS #1 AND #2) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / DTAT LIST / ACCEL POS #1 and #2.
    4. Read the voltage for the accelerator pedal position sensor data.

      Result 

      ACCEL POS #1 AND #2

      Accelerator Pedal ACCEL POS #1 ACCEL POS #2
      Released 0.4 to 1.4 V 1.0 to 2.2 V
      Depressed 3.1 to 4.6 V 3.9 to 4.8 V

    OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect the A12 accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VCP1 (H34-24) - EP1 (H34-33) 4.5 to 5.5 V
      VCP2 (H34-31) - EP2 (H34-32) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Connect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

      Pedal Position VPA (H34-25) - EP1 (H34-33) VPA2 (H34-26) - EP2 (H34-32)
      Released 0.4 to 1.4 V 1.0 to 2.2 V
      Depressed 3.1 to 4.6 V 3.9 to 4.8 V

    OK: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the H34 HV control ECU connector.
    3. Disconnect the AR accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      HV CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (VOLTAGE)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VPA (H34-25) - Body ground Below 1 V
      VCP1 (H34-24) - Body ground Below 1 V
      EP1 (H34-33) - Body ground Below 1 V
      VPA2 (H34-26) - Body ground Below 1 V
      VCP2 (H34-31) - Body ground Below 1 V
      EP2 (H34-32) - Body ground Below 1 V
    5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.

      Standard Resistance (Check for open) 

      HV CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VPA (H34-25) - VPA1 (A12-6) Below 1 Ω
      VCP1 (H34-24) - VCP1 (A12-4) Below 1 Ω
      EP1 (H34-33) - EP1 (A12-5) Below 1 Ω
      VPA2 (H34-26) - VPA2 (A12-3) Below 1 Ω
      VCP2 (H34-31) - VCP2 (A12-1) Below 1 Ω
      EP2 (H34-32) - EP2 (A12-2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for short) 

      HV CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VPA (H34-25) or VPA1 (A12-6) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      VCP1 (H34-24) or VCP1 (A12-4) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      EP1 (H34-33) or EP1 (A12-5) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      VPA2 (H34-26) or VPA2 (A12-3) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      VCP2 (H34-31) or VCP2 (A12-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      EP2 (H34-32) or EP2 (A12-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY
