Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter following menus: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / METER/ACTIVE TEST.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      METER: 

      METER SPECIFICATION

      Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
      FUEL GAUGE EMPTY, 1/2, FULL -

      OK: Needle indication is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter following menus: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / METER / DATA LIST.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      METER: 

      METER SPECIFICATION

      Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      FUEL GAUGE Fuel gauge indicates "F"
      Fuel gauge indicates "3/4"
      Fuel gauge indicates "1/2"
      Fuel gauge indicates "1/4"
      Fuel gauge indicates "E"
      (Fuel input / Min.: 0, Max.: 255)      		 Fuel gauge indicates "F" 48 (Ω)
      Fuel gauge indicates "3/4" 93 (Ω
      Fuel gauge indicates "1/2" 148 (Ω)
      Fuel gauge indicates "1/4" 188 (Ω)
      Fuel gauge indicates "E" 206 (Ω)      		 -

      OK: Fuel value signal displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.
    2. Check that the float position is between E and F and measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3 of the connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      OK 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Float level Resistance (Ω)
      F 3.0 to 5.0
      E 109.0 to 111.0

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE) 
    1. Disconnect the C9 connector and fuel tank wire.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C9-19 (FUEL SENDER)-F16-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      C9-2 (FE) - F16-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C9-19 (FUEL SENDER) -Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C9-19 (FE)-Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or normal one.

      OK: The operation of the combination meter assembly returns to normal. 

    NG: REPLACE ECM 

    OK: END
