Front Brake Pad, Brake Caliper & Brake Rotor: Inspection

  1. INSPECT PAD LINING THICKNESS
    1. Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness

Standard thickness: 9.8 mm (0.386 in.)

Minimum thickness: 1.0 mm (0.0394 in)

If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum, replace the pad

NOTE: Be sure to inspect the front disc when replacing the brake pads with new ones.

  2. INSPECT FRONT DISC BRAKE ANTI-RATTLE SPRING
    1. Make sure that the front disc brake anti-rattle spring has sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and that all rust and dirt are cleaned off. If necessary, replace the front disc brake anti-rattle spring
  3. INSPECT FRONT DISC
    1. Inspect the front disc for cracks. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the disc with a new one
    • There is a crack more than 30 mm (1.18 in.) in length (including the hole diameter) (A in the illustration)
    • There is a crack that reaches either the inner or outer edge of the disc (B in the illustration).

  4. INSPECT DISC THICKNESS
    1. Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness as shown in the illustration

Standard thickness: 30.0 mm (1.18 in.)

Minimum thickness: 28.0 mm (1.10 in.)

If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.

  5. INSPECT DISC RUNOUT
    1. Using SST to hold the disc, tighten the disc with the 3 nuts

      SST 09330-00021

      Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)

      HINT.

Use SST to hold the disc while tightening the nuts.

    2. Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 7 mm (0 276 in.) away from the outer edge of the front disc.

Maximum disc runout: 0.06 mm (0.00236 in.)

    3. If the runout exceeds the maximum value, change the installation position of the disc to minimize runout. If the runout exceeds the maximum even when the installation position is changed, check the bearing play in the axial direction and the axle hub runout (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ). If they are normal, and the disc thickness is not within the specified range, grind the disc If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.
    4. Remove the front disc
