Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Lexus IS F. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The reverse shift linked unction of the power mirrors will not operate when the mirror select switch is in the neutral position (between "L" and "R").
  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check for CAN communication system DTC s (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ).

      HINT

      If CAN communication system DTC s are output, inspect those DTC s first

      OK: DTC is not output. 

    NG: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLE SHOOTING)  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check for multiplex communication system DTC s (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).

      HINT

      If multiplex communication system DTC s are output, inspect those DTC s first.

      OK: DTC is not output. 

    NG: GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART)  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FOR DTC (SFI SYSTEM) 
    1. Check for DTC P0705 (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction).

      HINT

      If the DTC P0705 (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction) is output, inspect that DTC first

    NG: GO TO SFI SYSTEM (DTC P0705)  (See DTC P0705 TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (PRNDL INPUT) )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Enter the following menus. Body Electrical / Mirror U Mirror R / Active Test
    4. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the "Active Test".

      Mirror L and Mirror R 

      ITEM RANGE REFERENCE

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Mirror Up/Down Mirror vertical operation Up/Down -
      Mirror Right/Left Mirror horizontal operation Right/Left -

      OK: Mirror function is normal. 

    NG: Go to step  9

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE OUTER MIRROR CONTROL ECU 
    1. Replace the outer mirror control ECU with a normally functioning ECU or new one (See OUTER MIRROR CONTROL ECU  ).
  6. CONFIRM POWER MIRROR OPERATION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Make sure that the brake pedal is depressed
    3. Move the shift lever from P to R
    4. Check reverse shift-linked function

      OK: Reverse shift-linked function is normal. 

    NG: Go to step 7 

    OK: END 

  7. REPLACE GATEWAY ECU 
    1. Replace the gateway ECU with a normally functioning ECU or new one
  8. CONFIRM POWER MIRROR OPERATION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    2. Make sure that the brake pedal is depressed.
    3. Move the shift lever from P to R
    4. Check reverse shift-linked function

      OK: Reverse shift-linked function is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR  (See REMOVAL  )

  9. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR 
    1. for LH side
      1. Remove the outer rear view mirror (See REMOVAL  ).
      2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror face.

        Standard 

        VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

        Measurement Condition Mirror Operation
        Battery positive (+) → M-1 (MV)
        Battery positive (-) → M-10 (M+)
        Turns upward (A)
        Battery positive (+) → M-10 (M+)
        Battery positive (-) → h1-1 (MV)
        Turns downward (B)
        Battery positive (+) → h1-9 (MH)
        Battery positive (-) → M-10 (M+)
        Turns left (C)
        Battery positive (+) → h1-10 (M+)
        Battery positive (-) → h1-9 (MH)

    2. for RH side
      1. Remove the outer rear view mirror (See REMOVAL  ).
      2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror face.

        Standard 

        VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

        Battery positive (+) → g1-1 (MV)
        Battery positive (-) → g1-10 (M+)
        Turns upward (A)
        Battery positive (+) → g1-10 (M+)
        Battery positive (-) → g1-1 (MV)

        Battery positive (+) → g1-9 (MH)
        Battery positive (-) → g1-10 (M+)
        Turns left (C)
        Battery positive (+) → g1-10 (M+)
        Battery positive (-) → g1-9 (MH)

    NG: REPLACE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: REPLACE OUTER MIRROR CONTROL ECU  (See OUTER MIRROR CONTROL ECU  )
