Steering Gear: Disassembly

1. Remove the 2 bolts and the wiring harness clamp bracket from the power steering link assembly.

1. Using SST, secure the power steering link assembly in a vise

   SST 09612-00012 

   HINT:

   Tape SST before use

1. Put matchmarks on the tie rod end LH and the steering rack end sub-assembly

2. Loosen the lock nut, and remove the tie rod end LH and the lock nut

HINT.

Perform the same procedure as the LH side

1. Using pliers, remove the 2 steering rack boot clips

1. Using pliers and a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 steering rack boot clamp (LH side) as shown in the illustration
   NOTE: Be careful not to damage the No. 1 steering rack boot.

2. Remove the RH side by using the same procedure as the LH side

1. Remove the 2 No. 1 steering rack boots

1. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, unstake the RH and LH claw washers.
   NOTE: Avoid any impact to the steering rack.

2. Using 2 SST, remove the steering rack end sub-assembly (LH side) and the claw washer

   SST 09922-10010 

   NOTE: Use SST as shown in the illustration.

3. Using 2 SST, remove the steering rack end sub-assembly (RH side) and the claw washer

   SST 09922-10010 

   NOTE: Use SST as shown in the illustration. HI NT-Using SST, hold the rack and remove the steering rack end sub-assembly
