Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if Multiplex communication DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      Multiplex communication DTC is not output A
      Multiplex communication DTC is output B

    B: GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Turn the Techstream on
    4. Enter following menus' Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below

      Combination Meter 

      DIAGNOSTIC NOTE

      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge EMPTY, 1/2, FULL Confirm that the vehicle is stopped, engine idling

      OK: Fuel receiver gauge indication is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Turn the Techstream on
    4. Enter following menus. Body Electrical / Combination Meter/ Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Fuel Input Fuel input signal Min 0, Max 255 Fuel gauge indicates (E) 6 6 (L) -

      OK: Fuel value signal displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as fuel receiver gauge indication. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the P10 and Q14 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance: Fuel Sender Gauge Assembly (Main) 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Q14-2 (S) - Q14-3 (FE) Always 6.5 to 229.6 Ω

      Standard Resistance: Fuel Sender Gauge Assembly (Sub)

      P10-1 (FS) - P10-2 (E) Always 6.5 to 184.9 Ω

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (for 2UR-GSE)  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the J34 connector

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance

      J34-19 (FR) - Q14-2 (S) Always Below 1 Ω
      Q14-3 (FE) - P10-1 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      P10-2 (E) - J34-2 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      Q14-2 (S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P10-1 (FS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      J34-2 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the fuel sender gauge connector

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly (main).
      1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly (main) with harness connected.
      2. Check that the float moves smoothly between F and E.
      3. Measure the resistance between the terminals 1 (FE) and 2 (S) of the connector according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance (Fuel Sender Gauge Assembly (Main)) 

        RESISTANCE CHART

        Float Level Resistance (Ω)
        F 6.5 to 8.5
        Between E and F 6.5 to 242.6 (Gradually changes)
        E 237.6 to 229.6
    3. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly (sub)
      1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly (sub).
      2. Check that the float moves smoothly between F and E.
      3. Measure the resistance between the terminals 1 (FS) and 2 (E) according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance (Fuel Sender Gauge Assembly (Sub)) 

        RESISTANCE CHART

        Float Level Resistance (Ω)
        F 6.5 to 8.5
        Between E and F 6.5 to 171.9 (Gradually changes)
        E 167 9 to 184.9

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (for 2UR-GSE)  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. REPLACE COMBINATION METER 
    1. Replace the combination meter with a new or a known good one (See REMOVAL  ).

      OK: The operation of the combination meter returns to normal. 

    NG: REPLACE ECM (for 2UR-GSE)  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: END
