Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0771, P0796, P2714 AND P2808) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus. Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only P0771, P0796 and P2714 are output A
      Only P0796 and P2714 are output B
      Only P0796, P2714 and P2808 are output C
      P0771, P0796, P2714, and other DTCs are output D

      HINT

      If any other codes besides P0771, P0776 and P2714 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    B: Go to step  4

    C: Go to step  5

    D: GO TO DTC CHART  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  )

    A: Go to next Step 

  2. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM STALL SPEED TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  )

      HINT.

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them

    2. Perform the stall speed test (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TESTS  ).

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Test Condition Proceed to
      Stall speed test can be performed A
      Stall speed test cannot be performed B

    B: Go to step  9

    A: Go to next Step 

  3. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR AND SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3 
    1. Check the shift solenoid valve SR.
      1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SR (See DISASSEMBLY  )
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below

        Standard Resistance 

        STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Shift solenoid SR connector - Shift solenoid SR body 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω
      3. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and a negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound

        OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound. 

    2. Check the shift solenoid valve SL3.
      1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SL3 (See DISASSEMBLY  ).
      2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below

        Standard Resistance 

        STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SL3 -Terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
      3. Connect a battery positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

        OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound. 

        Result 

        RESULT REFERENCE

        Shift Solenoid Valve Condition Proceed to
        Shift solenoid valve SR and SL3 are OK A
        Shift solenoid valve SR is NG B
        Shift solenoid valve SL3 is NG C

    A: Go to step  8

    B: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

    C: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

  4. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM STALL SPEED TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      HINT:

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    2. Perform the stall speed test (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TESTS  ).

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Test Condition Proceed to
      Stall speed test can be performed A
      Stall speed test cannot be performed B

    A: Go to step  7

    B: Go to step  9

  5. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM STALL SPEED TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      HINT

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    2. Perform the stall speed test (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TESTS  ).

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Test Condition Proceed to
      Stall speed test can be performed A
      Stall speed test cannot be performed B

    B: Go to step  9

    A: Go to next Step 

  6. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM RUNNING TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      HINT

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    2. Start the engine, drive the vehicle and perform the inspection

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Test Condition Proceed to
      Only P0796 and P2714 are output A
      Only P0796, P2714 and P2808 are output B

    B: Go to step  10

    A: Go to next Step 

  7. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SL3 (See DISASSEMBLY  ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SL3 -terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect a battery positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound

      OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound.

    NG: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL3  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

    OK: Go to next Step 

  8. INSPECT TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the transmission valve body assembly (See DISASSEMBLY  )

      OK: There are no foreign objects on any valve. 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  9. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SLT (See DISASSEMBLY  ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SLT - terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect a battery positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound

      OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound. 

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      OK B
      NG A

    B: Go to step  8

    A: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

  10. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL4 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SL4 (See DISASSEMBLY  ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SL4 -terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect a battery positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound. 

      Result

      NG A

    B: Go to step  8

    A: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL4  (See DISASSEMBLY  )
