Inspection Procedure

Read freeze frame data using the Techstream The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR - ECM)
- Disconnect the camshaft timing control motor connector.
- Disconnect the ECM connector
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E62-1 (VTM) - E5-9 (EMD1) Always Below 1 Ω E64-1 (VTM) - E4-31 (EMD2) Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E62-1 (VTM) or E5-9 (EMD1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher E64-1 (VTM) or E4-31 (EMD2) - Body ground - Reconnect the camshaft timing control motor connector and ECM connector
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR (BANK 1 AND/OR BANK 2)
- Replace the camshaft timing control motor (See REMOVAL ).
- CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and idle it for 10 seconds
- Enter the following menus Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes
- Read the DTCs.
