Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0012 OR P0022) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream ON
    4. Enter the following menus" Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0012 or P0022 is output A
      DTC P0012 or P0022 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT

      If any DTCs other than P0012 or P0022 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    NG: GO TO DTC CHART  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY (BANK 1 AND/OR BANK 2) 
    1. Remove the camshaft timing control motor (See REMOVAL ).
    2. Check if the camshaft timing gear assembly eccentric shaft rotates smoothly

      OK: Rotates smoothly 

    3. Reinstall the camshaft timing control motor

    NG: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY (BANK 1 AND/OR BANK 2)  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR (BANK 1 AND/OR BANK 2) 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing control motor for bank 1 and/or bank 2 (See REMOVAL )
  4. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Turn the Techstream ON
    4. Clear DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR )
    5. Start the engine
    6. Switch the ECM from normal mode to check mode using the Techstream (See CHECK MODE PROCEDURE )
    7. Drive the vehicle in an urban area for approximately 5 minutes
    8. Enter the following menus. Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes
    9. Read the DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      Other DTCs output B

    B: GO TO DTC CHART  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    A: END
