Front Brake Pad, Brake Caliper & Brake Rotor: Removal

HINT

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID 
    NOTE: Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.
  3. DISCONNECT FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE 
    1. Remove the union bolt and gasket, and disconnect the front flexible hose from the front disc brake cylinder assembly

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD 
    NOTE: Be sure to inspect the front disc when replacing the brake pads with new ones (See INSPECTION ).
    1. Using a pin punch (5 mm) and a hammer, disengage the ring of the pad guide pin (upper) and push out the pad guide pin (upper) from the front disc brake cylinder assembly
      NOTE: Do not damage the disc brake cylinder surface.

    2. Holding the anti-rattle spring, remove the pad guide pin (upper) from the front disc brake cylinder assembly

    3. Remove the anti-rattle spring from the front disc brake cylinder assembly
    4. Using a pin punch (5 mm) and a hammer, disengage the ring of pad guide pin (lower) and remove the pad guide pin (lower) from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.
      NOTE: Do not damage the disc brake cylinder surface.

    5. Remove the bolt and pad guide tie rod from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.

    6. Remove the 2 front disc brake pads with anti-squeal shims from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.
  5. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM 
    1. Remove the 2 front disc brake anti-squeal shims from each pad
  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder assembly from the knuckle.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DISC 
    1. Remove the front disc from the front axle hub.

      HINT:

      Put matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.
