Cylinder Head Gasket: Removal

  1. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

  2. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  3. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 

    REMOVAL

  4. REMOVE NO. 3 CAMSHAFT 

    REMOVAL 

  5. REMOVE NO. 4 CAMSHAFT 

    REMOVAL 

  6. REMOVE CAMSHAFT 

    REMOVAL 

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 CAMSHAFT 

    REMOVAL 

  8. REMOVE FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY (for Direct Injection) 

    REMOVAL

  9. REMOVE NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) 
    1. Remove the 3 bolt sand camshaft housing.

    2. Uniformly loosen and remove the 2 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration

    3. Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly loosen the 10 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration. Remove the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to drop washers into the cylinder head.
      • Head warpage or cracking could result from removing the bolts in an incorrect order.

      HINT.

      Be sure to keep the removed parts separate for each installation position

    4. Remove the cylinder head.
  11. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD GASKET (for Bank 1) 
    1. Remove the No. 2 cylinder head gasket.
  12. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and camshaft housing.

    2. Uniformly loosen and remove the 2 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

    3. Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly loosen the 10 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration. Remove the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers

      HINT

      Be sure to keep the removed parts separate for each installation position.

    4. Remove the cylinder head.

  13. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET (for Bank 2) 
    1. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
