Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. CHECK SPARK PLUG AND SPARK OF MISFIRING CYLINDER 
    1. Check the spark plug and spark of the misfiring cylinder (See INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ).

    NG: Go to step  4

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL - ECM [IGF SIGNAL TERMINAL]) 
    1. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-2 - IGF1 (E5-24) Below 1 Ω
      I2-2 - IGF2 (E5-25)
      I3-2 - IGF2 (E5-25)
      I4-2 - IGF1 (E5-24)
      I5-2 - IGF2 (E5-25)
      I6-2 - IGF1 (E5-24)
      I7-2 - IGF1 (E5-24)
      I8-2 - IGF2 (E5-25)

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-2 or IGF1 (E5-24) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      I2-2 or IGF2 (E5-25) - Body ground
      I3-2 or IGF2 (E5-25) - Body ground
      I4-2 or IGF1 (E5-24) - Body ground
      I5-2 or IGF2 (E5-25) - Body ground
      I6-2 or IGF1 (E5-24) - Body ground
      I7-2 or IGF1 (E5-24) - Body ground
      I8-2 or IGF2 (E5-25) - Body ground
    4. Reconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ECM (IGF1 AND IGF2 VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage of the E5 and E7 ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IGF1 (E5-24) - E1 (E7-1) 4.5 to 5.5 V
      IGF2 (E5-25) - E1 (E7-1)
    4. Reconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.

    NG: REPLACE ECM

    OK: REPLACE IGNITION COIL WITH IGNITER 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL - ECM [IGT SIGNAL TERMINAL]) 
    1. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-3 - IGT1 (E5-8) Below 1 Ω
      I2-3 - IGT2 (E5-15)
      I3-3 - IGT3 (E5-11)
      I4-3 - IGT4 (E5-10)
      I5-3 - IGT5 (E5-13)
      I6-3 - IGT6 (E5-12)
      I7-3 - IGT7 (E5-14)
      I8-3 - IGT8 (E5-9)

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-3 or IGT1 (E5-8) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      I2-3 or IGT2 (E5-15) - Body ground
      I3-3 or IGT3 (E5-11) - Body ground
      I4-3 or IGT4 (E5-10) - Body ground
      I5-3 or IGT5 (E5-13) - Body ground
      I6-3 or IGT6 (E5-12) - Body ground
      I7-3 or IGT7 (E5-14) - Body ground
      I8-3 or IGT8 (E5-9) - Body ground
    4. Reconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT ECM (IGT1, IGT2, IGT3, IGT4, IGT5, IGT6, IGT7 OR IGT8 VOLTAGE) 
    1. Measure the voltage of the E5 and E7 ECM connectors when the engine is cranked.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IGT1 (E5-8) - E1 (E7-1) 0.1 to 4.5 V
      IGT2 (E5-15) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT3 (E5-11) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT4 (E5-10) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT5 (E5-13) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT6 (E5-12) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT7 (E5-14) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT8 (E5-9) - E1 (E7-1)

    NG: REPLACE ECM

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT ECM (IGT1, IGT2, IGT3, IGT4, IGT5, IGT6, IGT7 OR IGT8 VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Measure the voltage of the E5 and E7 ECM connectors when the engine is cranked.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IGT1 (E5-8) - E1 (E7-1) 4.5 V or more
      IGT2 (E5-15) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT3 (E5-11) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT4 (E5-10) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT5 (E5-13) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT6 (E5-12) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT7 (E5-14) - E1 (E7-1)
      IGT8 (E5-9) - E1 (E7-1)

    3. Reconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.

    NG: REPLACE ECM 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 and I8 ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON or START.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector and body ground

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-1 -Body ground 9 to 14 V
      I2-1 - Body ground
      I3-1 - Body ground
      I4-1 - Body ground
      I5-1 - Body ground
      I6-1 - Body ground
      I7-1 - Body ground
      I8-1 - Body ground
    4. Reconnect the ignition coil connectors.

    OK: REPLACE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY 

    NG: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - IGNITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil with igniter connectors.
    2. Disconnect the I18 ignition switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Ignition coil (I1-1) - IG2 (I18-6) Below 1 Ω.
      Ignition coil (I2-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I3-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I4-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I5-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I6-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I7-1) - IG2 (I18-6)
      Ignition coil (I8-1) - IG2 (I18-6)

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I1-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      I2-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I3-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I4-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I5-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I6-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I7-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
      I8-1 or IG2 (I18-6) - Body ground
    4. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
    5. Reconnect the ignition coil with igniter connectors.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
