Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY INTELLIGENT TESTER (WATER PUMP) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CLEAR DTC.
    4. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / ACTIVE TEST / WATER PUMP.
    5. During the WATER PUMP active test, check operation of the water pump.

      OK: There are ripples in the reservoir tank coolant. 

      HINT:

      The water pump is also activated in the READY-on state.

    NG: GO TO step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / ACTIVE TEST / WATER PUMP.
    4. During the WATER PUMP active test, check for pulse signals according to the table below.
      PULSE SIGNAL REFERENCE

      Item Contents
      Terminal NIWP (H29-29) - E1 (H31-5)
      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV, 2 ms/DIV
      Condition During WATER PUMP active test

      OK: The waveform appears as shown in the illustration. 

    OK: GO TO step   11

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - WATER PUMP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the H29 connector from the HV control ECU.
    3. Disconnect the W5 water pump connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for open) 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) - SWP (W5-2) Below 1 Ω
      NIWP (H29-29) - NWP (W5-1) Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for short) 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) or SWP (W5-2) - Body ground 100 kΩ or higher
      NIWP (H29-29) or NWP (W5-1) - Body ground 100 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the W5 water pump connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      NWP (W5-1) - GND (W5-3) 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY

    OK: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WATER PUMP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the W5 water pump w/ motor & bracket assembly connector.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      +BWP (W5-4) - GND (W5-3) 9 to 14 V

    NG: REPLACE FUSE AND REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK COOLANT HOSE 
    1. Check if the hoses of the cooling system are not bent or clogged.

      OK: The hoses of the cooling system are not bent or clogged. 

    NG: CORRECT TO NORMAL CONDITION

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - WATER PUMP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the H29 connector from the HV control ECU.
    3. Disconnect the W5 water pump w/ motor & bracket assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for open) 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) - SWP (W5-2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for short) 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) or SWP (W5-2) - Body ground 100 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Connect the HV control ECU connector and water pump w/ motor & bracket assembly connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) - E1 (H31-5) Below 1 V

    OK: GO TO step   10

    NG: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY (SWP TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the H29 connector from the HV control ECU.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) - E1 (H31-5) 9 to 14V

    NG: REPLACE WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY

    OK: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

  10. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Put the vehicle into the READY-on state.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IWP (H29-23) - E1 (H31-5) 9 to 14 V

    OK: REPLACE WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY

    NG: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

  11. READ OUTPUT DTC (HV) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
    4. Read output DTC. (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR )

      Result: DTC P0A05-776 is output. 

    YES: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    NO: Go to next step 

  12. PERFORM REPRODUCTION TEST 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/ MOBD / HV ECU / ACTIVE TEST / WATER PUMP.
    4. During the WATER PUMP active test, check for pulse signals according to the table below.
      PULSE SIGNAL REFERENCE

      Item Contents
      Terminal NIWP (H29-29) - E1 (H31-5)
      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV, 2 ms/DIV

    5. Perform the following reproduction tests. (Check for intermittent problems.)

      PRODUCTION TEST REFERENCE

      Reproduction test Parts to be replaced if any abnormality is found.
      Wiggle the connector. Harness or connector
      Wiggle the harness. Harness or connector
      Vibrate the HV control ECU. (Tap gently by hand.) HV control ECU
      Vibrate the water pump.
      (Tap gently by hand.)
      Water pump
      Heat or cool the HV control ECU HV control ECU
      Repeatedly activate and stop the water pump. When the problem is reproduced, perform inspection according to the inspection flow chart.
      Raise the temperature of the coolant (for Inverter), and repeatedly activate and stop the water pump. When the problem is reproduced, perform inspection according to the inspection flow chart.

      OK: The interval of pulse signal output is normal. 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE ABNORMAL PART 

    OK: REPLACE WATER PUMP W/ MOTOR & BRACKET ASSEMBLY
