Rear Drive Shaft Assembly: Removal

  1. REMOVE REAR TIRE 
  2. SEPARATE LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the load sensing valve sensor bracket and stabilizer link assembly.

  3. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR NO.2 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and differential support protector No.2 from the suspension member brace.

  4. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and suspension member brace.

  5. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the parking brake cable No.3.

  6. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.

      SST 09930-00010 

      NOTE: Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.
    2. While depressing the brake pedal, remove the axle shaft nut.

  7. SEPARATE SPEED SENSOR REAR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the speed sensor from the axle carrier.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.

  8. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      NOTE: Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
    2. Remove the caliper plates No.1 from the brake caliper.
  9. REMOVE REAR DISC (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  10. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR NO.2 (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  11. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR NO.1 (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  12. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.2 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Push the rear axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle. Using a plastic hammer, separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle carrier.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the joint boot and speed sensor.
      • Do not push out the rear axle carrier excessively.
      • Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.
  15. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft assembly.

      SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040) 

      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.
      • Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.

  16. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
    2. Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
    3. Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.
    4. Check the boot for damage.
