Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION  ).
  1. INSPECT DAC INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Ground terminal HDCW of the skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Check that the DAC indicator light comes on.

      OK: DAC indicator light comes on. 

    NG: Go to step   2 

    OK: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND COMBINATION METER) (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S28-33 (HDCW) - C11-10 Below 1
      S28-33 (HDCW) - Body ground 10 k or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Check the combination meter system (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ).

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (HDCS TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-44 (HDCS) - Body ground DAC switch is pushed in Below 1

    NG: Go to step   5 

    OK: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See  OVERHAUL  ) 

  5. INSPECT DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the DAC switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D5-3 - D5-4 Switch is pushed in Below 1
      D5-3 - D5-4 Switch is not pushed in 10 k or higher

    NG: REPLACE DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU, BODY GROUND AND DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH) (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S28-44 (HDCS) - D5-3 Below 1
      S28-44 (HDCS) - Body ground 10 k or higher
      D5-4 - Body ground Below 1

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: END
