HINT:

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (OCV) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the tester on.
    3. Warm up the engine.
    4. On the tester, enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVT CTRL B1 or VVT CTRL B2.
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the tester.
      TESTER OPERATION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Operation Specified Condition
      OCV OFF Normal engine speed
      OCV ON Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON)

    OK : CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    NG : GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (OCV FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Disconnect the E18 or E11 OCV connector.
    2. While idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the E18 or E11 OCV connector using an oscilloscope.

      Standard 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E18-1 (+) - E18-2 (-) Correct waveform appears as shown
      E11-1 (+) - E11-2 (-) Correct waveform appears as shown

    3. Reconnect the OCV connector.

    OK : REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY 

    NG : GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. INSPECT ECM (OCV SIGNAL) 
    1. Inspect the ECM using an oscilloscope.
    2. While idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the E3 or E5 OCV connector using an oscilloscope.

      Standard 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      OC1+ (E5-34) - OC1- (E5-33) Correct waveform appears as shown
      OC2+ (E3-9) - OC2- (E3-8) Correct waveform appears as shown

    NG : REPLACE ECM 

    OK : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
