STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for Manual Tilt): Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    HINT:

    See PRECAUTION 

  2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    HINT:

    See PRECAUTION 

  4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH (See Step 28 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See Step 29 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (See Step 30 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (See Step 9 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  8. REMOVE NO. 2 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER (See Step 4 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. REMOVE NO. 3 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER (See Step 3 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD (See Step 5 in  REMOVAL  ) 
  11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and main shaft assembly.
    3. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05011)

  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

    3. Disengage the 4 clips to separate the steering column cover upper.
    4. Disengage the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.
  13. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

    2. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 air duct.

  15. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Loosen bolt (A) and remove bolt (B), then slide the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Do not remove the bolt (A).
      • Do not separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering gear assembly.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke subassembly and the power steering gear assembly.
    3. Separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering gear assembly.

    4. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
    5. Remove the bolt and the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

  16. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Remove the bolt, and then slide the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
      NOTE: Do not separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering gear assembly.

    2. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering gear assembly.
    3. Separate the No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering gear assembly.

  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the brake pedal return spring.

    2. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield.
    3. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.

    4. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly.

  18. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering main shaft.
    2. Remove the bolt and the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
