Spiral Cable: Installation

  1. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Engage the 6 claws and install the spiral cable to the steering sensor.

  2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    2. Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.
      NOTE: If it is not in the neutral position, the pin of the turn signal switch may be snapped.
    3. Engage the 3 claws and install the spiral cable with steering sensor.
      NOTE: When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.
    4. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable with steering sensor.
    NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 

    For Manual Tilt (See INSTALLATION )

    For Power Tilt and Power Telescopic (See INSTALLATION )

  4. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR 
    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.
      NOTE: After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.
    3. Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor counterclockwise slowly by hand until it feels firm.
      NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable with steering sensor by the airbag wire harness.

    4. Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.
      NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable with spiral sensor by the airbag wire harness.

      HINT:

      The spiral cable with steering sensor will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  5. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    For Manual Tilt (See INSTALLATION )

    For Power Tilt and Power Telescopic (See INSTALLATION )

  6. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  7. INSTALL STEERING PAD (See  REMOVAL   ) 
  8. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  9. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  10. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  11. 11.INSPECT STEERING PAD 
    1. Inspect the steering pad (See STEERING PAD ).
  12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (See INITIALIZATION ).

      HINT:

      Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.

  13. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the SRS warning light (PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).
