Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE OF DATA LIST (STP SIGNAL) 

    HINT:

    According to the DATA LIST displayed by the intelligent tester, you can read the value of the switch, sensor, actuator and so on without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as the first step of troubleshooting is one method to shorten labor time.

    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the intelligent tester together with the CAN VIM (controller area network vehicle interface module) to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) position.
    4. Turn on the tester.
    5. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST".
    6. According to the display on the tester, read the "DATA LIST".

    Standard 

    DATA LIST TABLE

    Item Measurement Item/Range (display) Normal Condition
    STOP LIGHT SW Stop light switch Status/ON or OFF
    • Brake Pedal is depressed: ON
    • Brake Pedal is depressed: OFF
    NOTE: In DATA LIST TABLE  above, the conditions listed under "Normal Condition" are reference conditions. Do not depend solely on these reference conditions when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

    OK: GO TO STEP   3 

    NG: Go To Next Step 

  2. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the stop light switch assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY  .

    Standard resistance 

    STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    Switch position Tester Connection Specified Condition
    Switch pin free 1 - 2 Below 1 ohms
    Switch pin pushed in 10 k ohms or higher
    Switch pin free 3 - 4 10 k ohms or higher
    Switch pin pushed in Below 1 ohms

    NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go To Next Step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Install the stop light switch assembly.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM  when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

    Standard voltage 

    STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM

    Condition Tester Connection Specified Condition
    Brake pedal is depressed A6-4 (STP) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    Brake pedal is released Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    1. OK 

      REPLACE ECM
