Differential Oil: Adjustment

1. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
   1. Stop the vehicle on a level place.
   2. Front differential:
      1. Remove the differential filler plug and gasket.

   3. Rear differential:
      1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.

   4. Check that the oil surface is within 5 mm (0.20 in.) of the lowest position of the inner surface of the differential filler plug opening.
      NOTE:

      • Excessively large or small amounts of oil may cause trouble.
      • After replacing oil, recheck the oil level after driving.

   5. Check for oil leakage if the oil level is low.
   6. Front differential:
      1. Install the differential filler plug and a new gasket.

      Torque: 39 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

   7. Rear differential:
   1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug and a new gasket.

   Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

2. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
   1. Front differential:
      1. Remove the differential filler plug and gasket.
      2. Add oil.

         Capacity: 

         0.65 to 0.75 liter (0.69 to 0.79 US qts, 0.57 to 0.66 Imp. qts) 

         Oil grade: 

         Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 or equivalent

         Recommended oil viscosity: 

         OIL VISCOSITY TABLE
         
         

         Oil Viscosity
         Above -18°C (0°F)	SAE 90
         Below -18°C (0°F)	SAE 80W or 80W-90

      3. Check the oil level.
      4. Install the differential filler plug and a new gasket.

      Torque: 39 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: After replacing the oil, recheck the oil level after driving.
   2. Rear differential:
   1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.
   2. Add oil.

   Capacity: 

   2GR-FSE: 

   1.30 to 1.40 liter (1.37 to 1.48 US qts, 1.14 to 1.23 lmp. qts) 

   4GR-FSE (2WD): 

   1.10 to 1.20 liter (1.17 to 1.27 US qts, 0.97 to 1.05 lmp. qts) 

   4GR-FSE (4WD): 

   1.00 to 1.10 liter (1.06 to 1.17 US qts, 0.88 to 0.97 lmp. qts) 

   Oil grade: 

   2GR-FSE, 4GR-FSE (2WD): 

   Toyota genuine differential synthetic gear oil API GL-5 SAE 75W-85 or equivalent 

   4GR-FSE (4WD): 

   Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 or equivalent 

   Recommended oil viscosity:

3. Check the oil level.
4. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket.

Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf)
