Parking Brake Assembly: Disassembly

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
      NOTE: Hang the caliper with wire or equivalent.
    2. Remove the No. 1 caliper plate (2 pieces).
  3. REMOVE REAR DISC

    1. Release the parking brake.
    2. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.
    3. Remove the rear disc.

      HINT:

      If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns smoothly.

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe return spring.

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe return spring.

    SST 09703-30011

  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET 
    1. Slide the parking brake shoe, and remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 1 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 1 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      SST 09718-00010 

    2. Remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly.

      HINT:

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 hold down spring pin with your finger.

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 1 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 1 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      SST 09718-00010 

    2. Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly.

      HINT:

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 hold down spring pin with your finger.

  9. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe lever.
  10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK 
    1. Remove the rear axle hub and bearing assembly (See Step 21 in REMOVAL

    2. Remove the 2 nuts, cable support bracket and parking brake anchor block.
