Malfunction in Water Temperature Receiver Gauge: Wiring Diagram

HINT:

If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, an SFI system DTC is output. If output, perform troubleshooting on the SFI system first.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Operate the intelligent tester according to the display and select the "Active Test".

      Combination meter 

      COMBINATION METER SPECIFICATION

      Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
      COOLANT TEMP LOW / NORMAL / HI -

      OK : Needle indication is normal. 

    NG : REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    OK : GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Operate the intelligent tester according to the display and select the "Data List".

      ECM: 

      3GR-FSE 

      COOLANT TEMP SPECIFICATION

      Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      COOLANT TEMP Engine coolant Temperature/Min.: -40°C, Max.: 140°C After warming up: 80 to 105°C (176 to 221°F) If value is -40°C (-40°F), sensor circuit is open. If value is 140°C (284°F), sensor circuit is shorted.

      OK : Coolant temperature displayed on the tester is between 80°C (176°F) and 105°C (221°F) after warming up. 

      ECM: 

      3UZ-FE 

      COOLANT TEMP SPECIFICATION (3UZ-FE)

      Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      COOLANT TEMP Engine coolant Temperature/Min.: -40°C, Max.: 140°C After warming up: 75 to 95°C (167 to 203°F) If value is -40°C (-40°F), sensor circuit is open. If value is 140°C (284°F), sensor circuit is shorted.

      OK : Coolant temperature displayed on the tester is between 75°C (167°F) and 95°C (203°F) after warming up. 

    NG : GO TO ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM 

    OK : GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    OK : Operation of combination meter returns to normal. 

    NG : GO TO ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM 

    OK : END
