Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota Sienna. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step  1 if you are using the hand-held tester and start from step  2 if you are not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (VSC MOTOR RELAY OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the operation sound of the ABS motor individually when operating it with the hand-held tester.

      OK: 

      The operation sound of the ABS motor should be heard. 

    1. OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (VSC MOTOR RELAY 3 TERMINAL OF R/B NO.5) 
    1. Remove the VSC MTR relay from the R/B No.5.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    Measure voltage between terminal 3 of R/B No.5 (for VSC MTR relay) and body ground.

    OK: 

    Voltage: 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: Go to step   5 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  3. INSPECT VSC MOTOR RELAY 
    1. Check continuity between each pair of terminals of the motor relay.
      TERMINAL REFERENCE

      Terminals 1 and 2 Continuity (Reference value 80 Ω)
      Terminals 3 and 5 No continuity
    2. Apply battery positive voltage between terminals 1 and 2.
    3. Check continuity between terminals.

    1. NG: REPLACE VSC MOTOR RELAY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSC MOTOR RELAY - SKID CONTROL ECU ASSY) (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between the VSC motor relay and skid control ECU.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP CHECK AND REPLACE IF THE SAME CODE IS STILL OUTPUT AFTER THE DTC IS DELETED, CHECK THE CONTACT CONDITION OF EACH CONNECTION 
  5. INSPECT FUSE (ABS1 FUSE) 
    1. NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESS AND CONNECTOR CONNECTED FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. INSPECT VSC FAIL RELAY 
    1. Check continuity between each pair of terminals of the VSC FAIL relay.
      TERMINAL REFERENCE

      Terminals 1 and 2 Continuity (Reference value 100 Ω)
      Terminals 3 and 5 No continuity
    2. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2.
    3. Check continuity between terminals 3 and 5 of the VSC FAIL relay.

    1. NG: REPLACE VSC FAIL RELAY 
    2. OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
