Abs With EBD & BA & TRAC & VSC System: Pre-Check
- DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
- Check the warning lights.
- Release the parking brake pedal.
- When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS warning light, VSC warning light, TRAC OFF indicator light, BRAKE warning light and SLIP indicator light come on for approx. 3 seconds.
HINT:
- When the parking brake is applied or the level of the brake fluid is low, the BRAKE warning light comes on.
- If the indicator check result is not normal, proceed to troubleshooting for the ABS warning light circuit, TRAC warning light circuit, TRAC OFF indicator light circuit, BRAKE warning light circuit or SLIP indicator light circuit.
DIAGNOSIS TABLE - Check the warning lights.
- DTC CHECK (USING SST CHECK WIRE)
- Checking DTCs using a SST check wire. SST 09843-18040
- Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Read the DTC from the ABS warning light and VSC warning light on the combination meter.
HINT:
- If no code appears, inspect the diagnostic circuit, ABS warning light circuit or VSC warning light circuit.DIAGNOSIS TABLE
Trouble Area TC TERMINAL CIRCUIT ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT (DOES NOT LIGHT UP) VSC WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT (DOES NOT LIGHT UP) - As an example, the blinking patterns for normal code and codes 11 and 21 are shown on Fig 3.
- If no code appears, inspect the diagnostic circuit, ABS warning light circuit or VSC warning light circuit.
- Codes are explained in the code table on DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE .
- After completing the check, disconnect terminals TC and CG of DLC3, and turn off the display.
If 2 or more are DTCs are detected at the same time, the DTCs will be displayed in ascending order.
- Clearing the DTCs using the SST check wire.
SST 09843-18040
- Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Clear the DTCs stored in ECU by depressing the brake pedal 8 times or more within 5 seconds.
- Check that the warning light indicates the normal code.
- Remove the SST from the terminals of DLC3.
HINT:
Clearing the DTCs cannot be performed by removing the battery cable or ECU-IG fuse.

- DTC CHECK (USING HAND-HELD TESTER)
- Checking DTCs using the Hand-held tester.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3,
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen.

HINT:
Performing the ACTIVE TEST using the hand-held tester allows the relay, VSV, actuator and so on to operate without removing any parts. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as a first step of troubleshooting is one of the methods to reduce troubleshooting time.
It is possible to display the DATA LIST during the ACTIVE TEST.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- From to the display on the tester, select the "ACTIVE TEST".

IG must be turned ON to proceed ACTIVE TEST using a hand-held tester.

- The vehicle (sensor) status stored during ABS and/or VSC operation or at the time of error code detection can be displayed by the hand-held tester.
- Only one record of the freeze frame data is stored and the freeze frame data generated during ABS and/or VSC operation are updated whenever the vehicle status is changed. Also, the number of the operation of the ignition switch "ON" after the freeze frame data is stored can be stored up to 31 and it can be displayed.
HINT:
If the ignition switch "ON" operation exceeds 31 times, "31" appears on the display.
- If the diagnosis code malfunction occurs, the freeze frame data at the occurrence of the malfunction is stored but the ABS actuation data is deleted.

- Leaving the vehicle in a stationary condition and the brake pedal in free condition for 1 sec. or more, continue to quickly depress the brake pedal with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more for 1 sec. or more.
HINT:
At this time, the ABS warning light goes on for 3 sec
- Check the Speed sensor signal
- Drive the vehicle straight forward at the speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) or over for several seconds and check that the ABS warning light comes off.
HINT:
The sensor check may not be completed if the wheels spin or the steering wheels are steered during this check.
- Stop the vehicle.
- Using SST, it connects terminal TC and CG of DLC3. SST 09843-18040
- Read the number of blinks of the ABS warning light.
HINT:
- See the list of DTC on DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE .
- If every sensors are normal, the normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated).
- If more than 1 malfunctions are detected at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
- After the check, disconnect the SST from terminal TC and CG of the DLC3.
- Drive the vehicle straight forward at the speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) or over for several seconds and check that the ABS warning light comes off.
- Check the yaw rate sensor.
- Shift the shift lever to the D range and drive the vehicle at the vehicle speed of approx. 5 km/h (3 mph), turn the steering wheel either to left or right 90° or more, and maintain 180° circular drive for the vehicle.
- Stop the vehicle and shift the shift lever to the P position, check that the skid control buzzer sounds for 3 sec.
HINT:
- If the skid control buzzer sounds, the sensor check is completed normally.
- If the skid control buzzer does not sound, check the skid control buzzer circuit (See SKID CONTROL BUZZER CIRCUIT ), then perform the sensor check again.
- If the skid control buzzer still won't sound, there is a malfunction in the VSC sensor, so check the DTC.
- Drive the vehicle in a 180° circle. At the end of the turn, the direction of the vehicle should be within 180° +/-5° of its start position.
- Do not spin the wheels.
- Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of DLC3. SST 09843-18040
- Read the number of blinks of the VSC warning light.
HINT:
- See the list of DTC (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE ).
- If every sensor is normal, there is a normal code output. (A cycle of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated.)
- If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed 1st.
- After performing the check, disconnect the SST from terminals TS and CG, TC and CG of DLC3 and turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Procedures for the test mode:
- SENSOR SIGNAL CHECK (TEST MODE) (USING HAND-HELD TESTER) NOTE: After replacing the yaw rate sensor and/or brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU), perform zero point calibration of the yaw rate sensor (See step 10.).
HINT:
If the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or LOCK during test mode, DTC will be erased.
- Procedures for test mode:
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Check that the shift lever position is at P position.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Operate the hand-held tester to test mode.
- Check that the ABS warning light and VSC warning light blink.
HINT:
If the ABS warning light and VSC warning light do not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit and VSC warning light circuit (See ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT (DOES NOT LIGHT UP) and VSC WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT (DOES NOT LIGHT UP) ).
- Check the master cylinder pressure sensor.
- Keep the vehicle in the stationary condition on the level place for 1 sec. or more.
- Keeping the vehicle in the stationary condition and the brake pedal in free condition for 1 sec. or more. Depress the brake pedal with 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more for 0.1 sec. and keep depressing the brake pedal with the same force for 1 sec.
HINT:
At this time, ABS warning light comes on for 3 seconds.
- Check the speed sensor.
- Drive vehicle straight forward.
When driving the vehicle at the speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) or higher for several seconds, check that the ABS warning light goes off.
HINT:
The sensor check may not be completed if the vehicle has its wheel spin or its steering wheel steered during this check.
- Stop the vehicle.
- Drive vehicle straight forward.
- Check the yaw rate.
Shift the shift lever to the D position and drive the vehicle at the vehicle speed of approx. 5 km/h (3 mph), turn the steering wheel either to left or right for 90° or more, and maintain 180° circular drive for the vehicle.
Stop the vehicle and shift the shift lever to the P position, check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 sec.
HINT:
- If the VSC buzzer sounds, the sensor check is in normal completion.
- If the VSC buzzer does not sound, check the VSC buzzer circuit (See SKID CONTROL BUZZER CIRCUIT ), then perform the sensor check again.
- Drive the vehicle circularly by 180°. At the end of the turn, the direction of the vehicle should be within 180° +/- 5° of its start position.
- Do not spin the wheels.
- Read the DTC by following the tester screen.

- Procedures for test mode:
- IF NECESSARY, PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF YAW RATE SENSOR AND DECELERATION SENSOR (USING SST CHECK WIRE)
HINT:
After replacing the yaw rate sensor and/or the brake actuator assembly, make sure to perform yaw rate sensor and deceleration sensor zero point calibration.
NOTE:- While obtaining the zero point, do not give any vibration to the vehicle by tilting, moving or shaking it and keep it in a stationary condition. (Do not start the engine.)
- Be sure to perform this on a level surface (within an inclination of 1%).
- Shift the shift lever to P position.
- Clearing the zero point calibration using the SST check wire.

- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Using SST, connect and disconnect terminals TS and CG of DLC3 4 times or more within 8 seconds.
- Check that the warning light indicates the normal code.
- Remove the SST from the terminals of DLC3.
- Procedures for test mode:
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Using SST, it connects terminal TS and CG of DLC3.

- Check that the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position and shift the shift lever to P range.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Keep the vehicle in the stationary condition on the level surface for 2 sec. or more.
- Check that the VSC warning light blink.
HINT:
If the VSC warning light does not blink, perform the zero point calibration again.
- IF NECESSARY, PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF YAW RATE SENSOR AND DECELERATION SENSOR (USING HAND-HELD TESTER)
HINT:
When having replaced the yaw rate sensor and/or the brake actuator assembly, make sure to perform yaw rate sensor and deceleration sensor zero point calibration.
NOTE:- While obtaining the zero point, do not give any vibration to the vehicle by tilting, moving or shaking it and keep it in a stationary condition. (Do not start the engine.)
- Be sure to do this on a level surface (within an inclination of 1%).
- Shift the shift lever to P position.
- Hook up the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Operate the hand-held tester to clear zero point calibration.
- Operate the hand-held tester to test mode.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Keep the vehicle in the stationary condition on the level surface for 2 sec. or more.
- Check that the VSC warning light blink.
HINT:
If the VSC warning light does not blink, perform the zero point calibration again.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
