Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota Sienna. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step  1 if you are using the hand-held tester and start from step  2 if you are not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (TRAC OFF INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the item "TRAC OFF LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the TRAC OFF indicator light with the hand-held tester.
    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the TRAC OFF indicator light is shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.
    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. INSPECT MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (See  MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  ) 
    1. NG: MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between terminals TRC+ and TRC- of the ECM and terminals TRC+ and TRC- of the skid control ECU (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. INSPECT TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Remove the TRAC control switch.
    2. Disconnect the TRAC control switch connector.
    3. Measure resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the TRAC control switch when TRAC control switch is on and off.

    OK: 

    RESISTANCE REFERENCE

    TRAC cut switch Resistance
    Pushed in Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - TRAC OFF SWITCH) 
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between the TRAC OFF switch and skid control ECU (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (TRAC OFF INDICATOR LIGHT) (See  COMBINATION METER  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    2. OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  )
