Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota Sienna. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step  1 if you are using the hand-held tester and start from step  2 if you are not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (BRAKE WARNING LIGHT) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light is shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.
    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK DTC FOR ABS 
    1. Check if the DTCs are detected (See PRE-CHECK ).
    1. YES REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 
    2. NO GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT (See  COMBINATION METER  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    1. NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. NG: REPLACE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SUB-ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH) 
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between the parking brake switch and skid control ECU (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH) 
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between the brake fluid level warning switch and skid control ECU (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between the combination meter and skid control ECU (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  )
