Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step  4 when not using handheld tester.

1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER 
   1. Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and perform the "ACTIVE TEST".

      MTR (Combination meter):

   1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
   2. OK: Go to next step 
2. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
   1. Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "DATA LIST".

      MTR (Combination meter):

3. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
   1. Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "DATA LIST".

      ALL (ECM): 

      VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (ALL (ECM))

   1. NG: GO TO ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
   2. OK: Go to next step 
4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 

   INSPECTION USING OSCILLOSCOPE 

   1. Check the input signal waveform.
      1. Remove the combination meter assy.
      2. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals C8-7 and C9-1 of the combination meter connector.
      3. Start the engine.
      4. Check the signal waveform.

   1. OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
   2. NG: Go to next step 
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN ECM ASSY AND COMBINATION METER ASSY) (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
   1. Disconnect the C8, C9, E5 connectors.
   2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in ECM ASSY AND COMBINATION METER ASSY TERMINALS RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      ECM ASSY AND COMBINATION METER ASSY TERMINALS RESISTANCE
      
      

      Tester Connection	Specified Condition
      C8-7 - E5-5	Below 1 Ω
      C8-7 - Body ground	10 kΩ or higher
      C9-1 - Body ground	Below 1 Ω

   1. OK: REPLACE ECM 
   2. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
