OBD II scan tool (excluding hand-held tester):
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY (OPERATE OCV)
- Disconnect the V9 or V10 OCV connector.
- Apply positive battery voltage between the terminals of the OCV.
- Check the engine speed.
Standard:
Engine speed is rough idle or engine is stalled.
- Reconnect the OCV connector.
NG: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.
- INSPECT ECM (OCV SIGNAL)
- Inspect using the oscilloscope.
- During idling, check the waveform between the specified terminals of the E8 ECM connectors.

NG: REPLACE ECM (See ECM (3MZ-FE) )
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) - ECM)
- Disconnect the V9 or V10 OCV connector.
- Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.
Standard (Check for open):

Standard (Check for short):
- Reconnect the OCV connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.
