IV. WORK PROCEDURE
A. THROTTLE BODY INSPECTION
  1. REMOVE THE FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION BRACE 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts.
    2. Remove the front upper suspension brace.
    3. Remove the 4 spacers.
    4. Reinstall the 4 nuts.

  2. INSPECT THE THROTTLE BODY LOT NUMBER 
    1. Using a mirror inspect the lot number of the throttle body near the throttle motor.
    2. Check the throttle body lot number.
      1. If the throttle body lot number is:

      2. If the throttle body lot number is not in the list above proceed to step 3.

  3. REINSTALL FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION BRACE 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts.
    2. Reinstall the 4 spacers.
    3. Reinstall the front upper suspension brace.
    4. Reinstall the 4 nuts.

      Torque: 

      80 N.m (816 kgf.cm, 59 ft.lbf)

B. THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT
  1. RECORD AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  2. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE

  3. REMOVE THE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 nuts.
    2. Remove the V-Bank cover.

  4. REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the following:
      • MAF sensor connector (a)
      • VSV connector (b)
      • No. 1 emissions tube (c)
      • 4 vacuum hoses (d)
      • Fuel vapor feed hose (e)
      • Ventilation hose (f)
    2. Loosen the 2 air cleaner cap bolts (g).
    3. Loosen the air cleaner hose clamp bolt (h).
    4. Remove the air cleaner cap and hose.
    5. Remove the air cleaner filter element.

  5. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the TPS and throttle control connector.
    2. Disconnect the No. 2 coolant by-pass hose.
    3. Disconnect the No. 3 coolant by-pass hose.

    4. Remove the 4 bolts.
    5. Remove the throttle body.
    6. Remove the throttle body gasket.

  6. INSTALL THE NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install a new throttle body gasket.
    2. Install the new throttle body.
    3. Reinstall the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 

      11 N.m (112 Kgf.cm, 8 ft.lbf) 

    4. Reconnect the No. 3 coolant by-pass hose.
    5. Reconnect the No. 2 coolant by-pass hose.
    6. Reconnect the TPS connector.
    7. Reconnect the throttle motor connector.

  7. REINSTALL THE AIR CLEANER CAP SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Reinstall the air cleaner filter element.
    2. Reinstall the air cleaner cap and hose.
    3. Tighten the air cleaner hose clamp bolt (h).
    4. Tighten the 2 air cleaner cap bolts (g).

      Torque: 

      5 N.m (51 Kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

    5. Reconnect the following:
      • Ventilation hose (f)
      • Fuel vapor feed hose (e)
      • 4 vacuum hoses (d)
      • No. 1 emissions tube (c)
      • VSV connector (b)
      • MAF connector (a)
  8. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE 
  9. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS 
  10. INSPECT THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY 
    1. Connect the scantool to the DLC3 connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Press down on the accelerator pedal, and ensure that the throttle motor is operating properly and does not bind or make any friction noises.
    4. Inspect the TPS.
      1. Check that the MIL is "OFF".
      2. Using the throttle linkage fully open the throttle.
      3. Check that the "THROTTLE POS" on the CURRENT DATE screen shows the standard value.

        Standard Value: 

        60% or greater 

        NOTE: If the Standard Value is out of specifications, refer to the appropriate repair manual.
    5. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
    6. Turn the A/C switch to the "ON" position.
      1. Check idle speed.
    7. Turn the A/C to the "OFF" position.
      1. Check idle speed.
        NOTE: Refer to the appropriate repair manual for idle speed specifications.
  11. RESET AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  12. REINITIALIZES THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS IF EQUIPPED: 
    • Compass
    • Moon roof
  13. REINSTALL THE V-BANK COVER 
    1. Reinstall the V-Bank cover.
    2. Reinstall the 3 nuts.

      Torque: 

      7.9 N.m (81 Kgf.cm, 70 in.lbf)

  14. REINSTALL FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION BRACE 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts.
    2. Reinstall the 4 spacers.
    3. Reinstall the front upper suspension brace.
    4. Reinstall the 4 nuts.

      Torque: 

      80 N.m (816 Kgf.cm, 59 ft.lbf)

III. WORK PROCEDURE
A. THROTTLE BODY INSPECTION
  1. REMOVE THE V-BANK COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts holding the V-Bank cover.

    2. Check the throttle body lot number.
      1. If the throttle body lot number is:

B. THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT
  1. RECORD AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  2. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE

  3. REMOVE THE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 
  4. REMOVE THE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE 
    1. Disconnect the following from the air connector pipe:
      • The air hose.
      • PCV hose.
    2. Remove the bolt and hose clamp.
    3. Remove the air connector pipe.
  5. REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the throttle body connectors.
    2. Disconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 5.
    3. Disconnect the TPS connector.
    4. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts from the throttle body.
    5. Disconnect the throttle body from the intake manifold.
    6. Remove the throttle body gasket.

  6. INSTALL THE NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the new throttle body gasket.
    2. Install the new throttle body.
    3. Reinstall the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.

      Torque: 

      18 N.m (185 Kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

    4. Reconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 5.
    5. Reconnect the throttle body connectors.

  7. REINSTALL THE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE 
    1. Reinstall the air connector pipe with the bolt and hose clamp.

      Torque: 

      Hose Clamp: 

      4 N.m (40 Kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) 

      Bolt 

      5 N.m (50 Kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) 

    2. Reconnect the following to the air connector pipe:
      • The air hose.
      • PCV hose.
  8. REINSTALL THE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 
  9. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE 
  10. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS 
  11. REINSTALL THE V-BANK COVER 

    Torque: 

    5 N.m (50 Kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) 

  12. INSPECT THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY 
    1. Connect the scantool to the DLC3 connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Press down on the accelerator pedal, and ensure that the throttle motor is operating properly and does not bind or make any friction noises.

    4. Inspect the TPS.
      1. Check that the MIL is "OFF".
      2. Using the throttle linkage fully open the throttle.

        NOTE: If the Standard Value is out of specifications refer to the appropriate repair manual
    5. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

    7. Turn the A/C to the "OFF" position.
      1. Check idle speed.
        NOTE: Refer to the appropriate repair manual for idle speed specifications.
    8. Disconnect the scantool.
  13. RESET AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  14. REINITIALIZES THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS IF EQUIPPED: 
    • Compass
    • Drivers seat and head restraint position.
  15. PROCEED TO SSC COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION

  3. REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER INLET HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the following from the air cleaner inlet hose assembly:
      • Power steering idle-up vacuum hose.
      • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
      • Ventilation hose.
    2. Remove the air cleaner hose assembly.
  4. REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 7.
    2. Disconnect the TPS connector.
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts from the throttle body.
    4. Disconnect the throttle body from the intake manifold.
    5. Remove the throttle body gasket.
    6. Disconnect the No. 8 water by-pass hose.

  5. INSTALL THE NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reinstall by-pass hose No. 8
    2. Install the new throttle body gasket.
    3. Install the new throttle body.
    4. Reinstall the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.

      Torque: 

      18 N.m (185 Kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

    5. Reconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 7.
    6. Reconnect the TPS connector.

  6. REINSTALL THE AIR CLEANER INLET HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reinstall the air cleaner hose assembly.
    2. Reconnect the following from the air cleaner inlet hose assembly:
      • Ventilation hose.
      • Power steering idle-up vacuum hose.
      • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
  7. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE 
  8. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS 
  9. REINSTALL THE THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  10. REINSTALL THE V-BANK COVER 
  11. INSPECT THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY 
    1. Connect the scantool to the DLC3 connector.

  1. REMOVE THE V-BANK COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts holding the V-Bank cover.
    2. Unclip the fuel return line from the V-Bank cover.

    3. Check the throttle body lot number.
      1. If the throttle body lot number is:

  2. REINSTALL THE V-BANK COVER 
    1. Reinstall the V-Bank cover using the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts.
    2. Reinstall the clip for the fuel return hose onto the V-Bank cover.
  3. PROCEED TO SSC COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION

B. THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT
  1. RECORD AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  2. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE 
  3. REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER INLET HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the following from the air cleaner inlet hose assembly:
      • Power steering idle-up vacuum hose.
      • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
      • Ventilation hose.
    2. Remove the air cleaner hose assembly.

  4. REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 7.
    2. Disconnect the TPS connector.
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts from the throttle body.
    4. Disconnect the throttle body from the intake manifold.
    5. Remove the throttle body gasket.
    6. Disconnect the No. 8 water bypass hose.

  5. INSTALL THE NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reinstall by-pass hose No. 8
    2. Install the new throttle body gasket.
    3. Install the new throttle body.
    4. Reinstall the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.

      Torque: 

      18 N.m (185 Kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

    5. Reconnect the following coolant hoses:
      • Water by-pass hose.
      • Water by-pass hose No. 7.
    6. Reconnect the TPS connector.

  6. REINSTALL THE AIR CLEANER INLET HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reinstall the air cleaner hose assembly.
    2. Reconnect the following from the air cleaner inlet hose assembly:
      • Ventilation hose.
      • Power steering idle-up vacuum hose.
      • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
  7. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE 
  8. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS 
  9. REINSTALL THE THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  10. REINSTALL THE V-BANK COVER 
  11. INSPECT THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY 
  12. INSPECT THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY 
    1. Connect the scantool to the DLC3 connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Press down on the accelerator pedal, and ensure that the throttle motor is operating properly and does not bind or make any friction noises.

    4. Inspect the TPS.
      1. Check that the MIL is "OFF".
      2. Using the throttle linkage fully open the throttle.
      3. Check that the "THROTTLE POS" on the CURRENT DATE screen shows the standard value.

        Standard Value: 

        60% or greater 

        NOTE: If the Standard Value is out of specifications refer to the appropriate repair manual
    5. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
    6. Turn the A/C switch to the "ON" position.
      1. Check idle speed.
    7. Turn the A/C to the "OFF" position.
      1. Check idle speed.
        NOTE: Refer to the appropriate repair manual for idle speed specifications.
  13. RESET AUDIO STATION PRESETS 
  14. REINITIALIZES THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS IF EQUIPPED: 
    • Compass
    • VGRS System
  15. PROCEED TO SSC COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION 
SSC COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION

After completing the repair and before returning the vehicle to the owner, an SSC completion label, which is enclosed in the owner's notification, must be affixed to the left front door hinge post, near the check strap.

  1. The label is to be filled out as follows:
    • Write in SSC 3LF.
    • Write in date of repair.
    • Write in your dealer code.
