Activating Air Bag System (Civic)
NOTE:
To reconnect front SRS connectors, push sleeve-side connector half toward pawl-side connector half without touching sleeve. As connector halves are pressed together, pawl will push sleeve back. When connector halves are completely connected, pawl will release spring-loaded sleeve and connector will lock.
- Ensure ignition is OFF and negative battery cable is disconnected. WAIT at least 3 minutes. Connect 4-pin driver's air bag connector. Install access panel.
- Connect 4-pin passenger's air bag connector. Install glove box. Connect driver's and passenger's side impact air bag module 2-pin connectors under seats.
- Connect both front seat belt pretensioner 2-pin connectors to SRS main harness. Install trim panels. Connect both seat belt buckle tensioner connectors to SRS main harness.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Check SRS indicator light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Reprogram radio frequencies. To allow ECM/PCM adaptive idle speed system to learn and adjust the engine idle speed, go to next step.
- Ensure all electrical loads (A/C, audio, rear defogger, lights, etc.) are turned off. Start engine, and hold it at 3000 RPM with no load (in Park or Neutral) until radiator fan comes on, or until engine coolant temperature reaches a normal operating temperature of 194°F (90°C). On Civic Hybrid, engine coolant normal operating temperature is 176-212°F (80-100°C). On all models, allow engine to idle for about 5 minutes with throttle fully closed and cooling fan not operating.
NOTE:
If radiator cooling fan comes on, add the time the cooling fan is on to the 5 minute adaptive idle learn time.
