Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Check the transponder key coil. See TRANSPONDER KEY COIL  under COMPONENT TESTS. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the transponder key coil. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article.
  2. Check the harness and connector between the transponder key amplifier and ECM. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness and connector.
  3. If the system operates normally after replacement of the transponder key amplifier, replace the transponder key amplifier. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article. If the system does not operate normally, replace the ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
