Disassembly & Reassembly
- Remove the defroster nozzle by removing the 5 screws. See Figure and Fig 1 .
- Remove the No. 1 side defroster nozzle duct by removing the screw.
- Remove the No. 2 side defroster nozzle duct by removing the screw.
- Remove the No. 4 heater to register duct by removing the 2 screws.
- Remove the No. 1 register by removing 2 screws.
- Remove the No. 3 register by removing the 2 screws.
- Remove the front passenger air bag assembly by removing the 2 nuts and straps, and 2 bolts. See Fig 2. At the time of reassembly, refer to the following:
- When installing the front passenger air bag assembly, make sure that the strap is not distorted and installed to the brackets securely.
- Make sure that the front passenger air bag assembly is installed to the specified torque of 50 In. lbs. (5.6 N.m).
- If the front passenger air bag assembly has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front passenger air bag assembly with a new one.
- When installing the front passenger air bag assembly, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
- Remove the glove compartment door lock striker plate by removing the 4 screws.
- Remove the instrument panel wire harness, No. 1 meter hood retainer, No. 1 radio mounting bracket, No. 2 radio mounting bracket, No. 4 finish panel mounting bracket, No. 4 side defroster nozzle and No. 1 side defroster nozzle garnish.
- For reassembly, reverse the disassembly procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not store the front passenger air bag assembly with the air bag deployment facing down.
CAUTION:
Never disassemble the front passenger air bag assembly.
