Inspection Procedure

  1. DO ACTIVE TEST OF OBD II SCAN TOOL OR LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Check engine coolant temperature receiver gauge operation.
      1. Connect the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester to DLC3.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester main switch ON.
      3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester.
      4. Check that the prove moves as OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester directs in each range.

      OK: The meter operations normally. 

    1. CHECK AND REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. READ VALUE OF OBD II SCAN TOOL OR LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Check output value of speedometer.
      1. Connect the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester to DLC3.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester main switch ON.
      3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester.
      4. Read the engine coolant temperature value on the OBD II scan tool or LEXUS hand-held tester. OK: Same as actual engine coolant temperature.
    1. NG: GO TO ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. CHECK THAT MALFUNCTION DISAPPEAR A KNOWN GOOD COMBINATION METER IS INSTALLED 
    1. Check that malfunction disappear when a known good combination meter is installed.
    COMBINATION METER

    A Malfunction does not disappear
    B Malfunction disappear
    1. B: CHECK AND REPLACE ECM 
    2. A: CHECK AND REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY
