Removal & Installation (RX 300)

Remove rear wheel and temporarily fasten disc with lug nuts.
Check pad thickness through caliper inspection hole and replace pads if not within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
On 2 wheel drive vehicle, remove bolt and flexible hose from shock absorber.
On all vehicles, remove installation bolt on bottom from torque plate. Lift up caliper and suspend it securely. Do not disconnect flexible hose. See Figure.
Remove brake pads with anti-squeal shims. Remove pad support plates. The support plates can be used again if they have sufficient rebound, no-deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.
To install, reverse removal procedure.

NOTE: When replacing worn pads, anti-squeal shims must be replaced also.

Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shims. Install anti-squeal shims on each pad. Install inner pad with pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
Install outer brake pad.
Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from reservoir. Press in piston with an appropriate piston compressor. If piston is difficult to push in, loosen bleeder screw and push in piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
Lower and install caliper and tighten installation bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
On 2 wheel drive vehicles, install flexible hose with bolt to shock absorber. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
If bleeder screw was loosened, bleed system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
Install rear wheel and tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Depress brake pedal and check that fluid level is at MAX line.
