Removal & Installation (LX 470)

Remove rear wheel. Check pad thickness through caliper inspection hole and replace pads if not within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
Remove mounting bolts, remove caliper and suspend it so hose is not stretched. Do not disconnect flexible hose.
Remove brake pads and anti-squeal shims. See Figure.
Remove pad support plates. Pad support plates can be used again if they have sufficient rebound, no-deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.
Install pads. If installing new pads, anti-squeal shims must also be replaced. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shims. Do not allow oil or grease to get on rubbing face.
Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from reservoir. Press in pistons with an appropriate piston compressor. Always change pads on one wheel at a time as there is a possibility of opposite piston flying out. If piston is difficult to push in, loosen bleeder screw and push in piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
Install caliper carefully so boot is not wedged. Install mounting bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
If bleeder screw was loosened, bleed system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
Install rear wheel and check that fluid level is at MAX line.
