Removal & Installation (GS 300, GS 430, IS 300 & RX 300)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Check brake pads through caliper inspection hole for minimum thickness. Replace pads if they are not within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Hold sliding pin on bottom of caliper and remove installation bolt. Without disconnecting flexhose, lift bottom of brake caliper up, and wire aside. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove anti-squeal springs, brake pads, anti-squeal shims, pad support plates and pad wear indicator plate, if necessary. The anti-squeal springs and support plates can be used again if they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.
  4. Check disc thickness. See FRONT BRAKE DISC .
  5. Check disc runout. See DISC RUNOUT  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  6. Install pad support plates.
  7. When replacing worn pads, anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicator plates must be replaced together with pads.
  8. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shims.
  9. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
  10. Install inner pad with pad wear indicator plate facing upward. On IS 300 it will face downward.
  11. Install outer pad.
  12. Install anti-squeal springs.
