Test No. 12: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inoperative Or Abnormal Operation

  1. Check for continuity between sending unit body and engine block. Replace sending unit if continuity is not present. If continuity is present, check engine coolant temperature gauge operation. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under COMPONENT TESTS. If gauge operation is okay, replace sending unit. If gauge operation is not okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector "A". Check for continuity between ground and harness connector "A", terminals No. 3 (Yellow/Green wire) and No. 2 (White/Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity is not present in each circuit, repair appropriate circuit as necessary. If continuity is present in both checks, go to next step.
  3. Check gauge resistance. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If gauge resistance is okay, replace circuit plate and retest.
