Test No. 7: Speedometer Completely Inoperative

  1. Test drive vehicle and check odometer operation. If odometer does not operate, go to next step. If odometer is okay, check trip meter operation. If trip meter is okay, replace speedometer and retest. If trip meter does not operate, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector "D". Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between harness connector "D", terminals No. 13 (Blue/Red wire) and No. 23 (White/Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Voltage should vary between zero volts and 11 volts or greater while rotating driveshaft. If voltage is as specified, replace circuit plate and retest. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Check ABS ECU. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If ABS ECU is okay, go to next step.
  4. With instrument cluster removed, use jumper wires to connect terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire), No. 13 (Blue/Red wire) and No. 23 (White/Black wire) of harness connector "D" to the respective instrument cluster terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between harness connector "D", terminals No. 13 and 23. Voltage should vary between zero volts and 11 volts or greater while rotating driveshaft. If voltage is not as specified, replace circuit plate and retest. If voltage is as specified, replace speedometer and retest.
