Test No. 5: Light Control Switch (Rheostat) Does Not Change Brightness

  1. Check light control rheostat. See LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace as needed and recheck system. If light control rheostat is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect light control rheostat harness connector and instrument cluster harness connector "D". Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between harness connector "D", terminals No. 3 (Blue wire) and No. 5 (Yellow/Black wire) while turning rheostat. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage changes smoothly, replace circuit plate. If voltage does not change smoothly, repair wiring between rheostat and instrument cluster.
