Without Lexus Hand-Held Tester (Scan Tool)

  1. Diagnose VSS circuit using diagnostic test for DTC P0500: VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) MALFUNCTION. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If system tests okay, replace instrument cluster. If system does not test okay, go to next step.
  2. Check harness and connectors between instrument cluster and ABS ECU. Repair as necessary. If harness and connectors are okay, check VSS circuit and ABS ECU. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
