Test 13: Twin Trip & Odometer Does Not Change While Driving

  1. Test drive and check speedometer operation. If speedometer works, go to step 2). If speedometer does not work, disconnect instrument panel connector "B". Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between connector "B" terminal No. 13 and No. 15. Voltage should vary between zero volts and battery voltage while rotating driveshaft. If voltage is as specified, replace circuit plate and retest. If voltage is not as specified, check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)  under COMPONENT TESTS. If VSS is bad, replace VSS and retest. If VSS is okay, repair wiring between VSS and instrument panel.
  2. Remove instrument panel. Using jumper wires, connect connector terminals B1, B13, B15 and B23 to instrument panel terminals. Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between connector "B" terminal No. 13 and No. 15. Voltage should vary between zero volts and battery voltage while rotating driveshaft. If voltage is not as specified, replace circuit plate and retest. If voltage is as specified, replace trip meter and retest.
