Driveshaft (G2298395): Overview
The driveshaft is required to transfer drive to the rear axle of the vehicle.
The driveshaft contains the following elements:
- Front Constant Velocity (CV) joint
- Front shaft
- Center CV joint
- Driveshaft bearing assembly
- Rear shaft
- Direct Torque Flow (DTF) joint.
The driveshaft is connected to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) via a CV joint and to the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) via a DTF joint. There is a CV joint in the center of the driveshaft which divides the driveshaft to front and the rear section. These joints allow for angular deviations of the driveshaft due to acceleration and braking. The center CV joint also allows movement for the front section. The driveshaft bearing assembly supports the weight of the driveshaft due to the increased length.
