Rear Drive Unit (G2308412): Removal
NOTE:

- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- If the special tool JLR-205-993 does not fit as intended, refer to SSM75484.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove both the rear halfshafts.
Refer to: REAR HALFSHAFT .
- Remove the rear silencer.
Refer to: REAR SILENCER .
- Disconnect the rear driveshaft.
Refer to: DRIVESHAFT TO REAR DIFFERENTIAL DISCONNECTION .
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield
Use a suitable hydraulic jack to support the Rear Drive Unit (RDU).
General Equipment: Transmission jack
Remove and discard the 2 front RDU bolts.
Remove and discard the 2 rear RDU bolts.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness and breather when lowering the RDU.
Lower the RDU to gain access to the electrical connector and breather.
- Disconnect the RDU electrical connector.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the breather.
Remove the RDU.

NOTE: Only complete the following step(s), if a new component is to be installed.
Release the wiring harness clip.
Disconnect the 2 control module electrical connectors.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the RDU control module.

NOTE: When the rear driveshaft is removed, make sure the driveshaft nut is installed and hand tightened back onto the end of the driveshaft.
- Use a suitable tool to remove the circlip.
- Discard the circlip.
- Remove the rear driveshaft nut.
