Rear Differential Pinion Seal (G2354783): Removal
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the rear driveshaft.
Refer to: DRIVESHAFT .
- Use a suitable tool to remove the circlip.
- Discard the circlip.
- Remove the rear driveshaft nut.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
Mark the position of the pinion nut in relation to the rear differential pinion as illustrated.
Use a suitable vernier to measure the distance between the top of pinion nut to the tip of the pinion to aid installation.
General Equipment: Vernier gauge
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-205-984

NOTE: Make sure that the special tool is correctly installed on the rear differential splines.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-205-1039

CAUTION:
- Make sure the special tool is correctly supported.
- Make sure the special tool is correctly located in the axle stand.
Use a suitable hydraulic jack and axle stand to support the special tool as illustrated.
General Equipment: Axle stands
General Equipment: Transmission jack

CAUTION: The rear differential pinion nut has a left hand thread.NOTE: Count the number of rotations taken to remove the nut.
Loosen the pinion nut.

CAUTION: The rear differential pinion nut has a left hand thread.NOTE: Count the number of rotations taken to remove the nut.
Remove the rear differential pinion nut.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
- Use the special tools to remove the rear differential pinion seal.
Special Tool(s): 100-012-01 , 100-012 , 308-375
- Discard the seal.
- Use the special tools to remove the rear differential pinion seal.
