Rear Drive Axle And Differential - Vehicles Without: Active Driveline (G2298400): Overview

The standard driveline system comprises a Power Transfer Unit (PTU), a 2-piece driveshaft and a single clutch Rear Drive Unit (RDU). The system is controlled by the All Wheel Drive Control Module (AWDCM) and the Driveline Disconnect Control Module (DDCM).

The standard driveline is able to disconnect the entire driveline using 2 points of disconnection:

This allows Front Wheel Drive (FWD) only, providing maximum fuel economy.

A control strategy continuously monitors key vehicle and environmental parameters. If the requirements for All Wheel Drive (AWD) are met, the system reconnects the AWD system. This is done through a dog clutch in the PTU and by closing the clutch in the RDU.

No driver intervention is required with standard driveline. If the driver has selected a Terrain Response (TR) special program, the system automatically engages and/or maintains AWD. System operation is displayed to the driver through a graphical display in the Touchscreen (TS).
