Pinpoint Test G: Front Seat Recline Function Inoperative
- G1: CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES WARNING: Before work is completed, make the airbag supplemental restraint system safe. For additional information, refer to Standard Workshop Practices article
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check for any Diagnostic trouble code(s) relating to the front seat recline motor.
Are there any Diagnostic trouble code(s) set relating to the front seat recline motor?
Yes: Rectify the Diagnostic trouble code(s) before continuing with this pinpoint test.
No: GO to G2.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check for any Diagnostic trouble code(s) relating to the front seat recline motor.
- G2: INSPECT THE RECLINE MOTOR SHAFT
- Operate the recline motor and inspect the recline motor shaft for any twist.
Is there any twist observed in the shaft while reclining?
Yes: If there is obvious twist identified in the recline motor shaft when operating, install a new seat backrest frame. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G3.
No: GO to G3.
- Operate the recline motor and inspect the recline motor shaft for any twist.
- G3: CHECK TO SEE IF THE RECLINE MECHANISM IS JAMMED
- Check to see if the recline mechanism is jammed.
Is the front seat recline mechanism jammed?
Yes: If the front seat recline mechanism is jammed, install a new seat backrest frame. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G4.
No: GO to G4.
- Check to see if the recline mechanism is jammed.
- G4: RUN ON DEMAND SELF TEST
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, run an On Demand Self Test and check for any front seat recline motor related Diagnostic Trouble Code(s).
Are there any Diagnostic trouble code(s) set relating to the front seat recline motor?
Yes: Rectify the Diagnostic trouble code(s) before continuing with this pinpoint test.
No: GO to G5.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, run an On Demand Self Test and check for any front seat recline motor related Diagnostic Trouble Code(s).
- G5: RUN THE CALIBRATION CYCLE
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Calibrate Seat (0x205F). Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times.
Does the seat recline motor operate as expected?
Yes: No further action is required.
No: GO to G6.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Calibrate Seat (0x205F). Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times.
- G6: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor circuit and inspect the motor to seat module wiring harness for damage, trapped wires or disconnected connectors.
Was a concern found with the motor to seat module wiring harness?
Yes: Rectify the concern found and retest the recline motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G7.
No: GO to G7.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor circuit and inspect the motor to seat module wiring harness for damage, trapped wires or disconnected connectors.
- G7: WIRING HARNESS ELECTRICAL CHECKS NOTE: Make sure a battery support unit is connected and a battery reference voltage is obtained
- G8: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor connector and check for damage.
Was any damage identified at the wiring harness connector?
Yes: Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G9.
No: GO to G9.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor connector and check for damage.
- G9: RECLINE MOTOR CONNECTOR INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Check the male connector pins on the recline motor.
Was a concern identified with the male pins?
Yes: Install a new front seat recline motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G10.
No: GO to G10.
- Check the male connector pins on the recline motor.
- G10: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.
Were any pins found to be loose?
Yes: Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected, install a new seat recline motor.
No: Install a new front seat recline motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected, raise a TA and report all of the above findings and information.
- Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.
- G11: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor connector and check for damage at the module end of the wiring harness.
Was any damage identified at the wiring harness connector?
Yes: Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G12.
No: GO to G12.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor connector and check for damage at the module end of the wiring harness.
- G12: SEAT MODULE CONNECTOR INTEGRITY CHECK
- Inspect the male connector pins on the seat module.
Was a concern identified with the male pins?
Yes: Install a new front seat module. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G13.
No: GO to G13.
- Inspect the male connector pins on the seat module.
- G13: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS
- Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.
Were any pins found to be loose?
Yes: Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected GO to G14.
No: GO to G14.
- Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.
- G14: WIRING HARNESS ELECTRICAL CHECKS
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, measure the positive and ground at the seat module and check that the positive and ground are present at the seat module.
Were the positive and ground present at the module?
Yes: Install a new front seat module. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected, raise a TA and report all of the above findings and information.
No: Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the recline motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the recline motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the recline motor fails to operate as expected, raise a TA and report all of the above findings and information.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, measure the positive and ground at the seat module and check that the positive and ground are present at the seat module.
