Pinpoint Test A: Front Seat Fore/Aft Movement Not Functioning

  1. A1: CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES 
    WARNING: Before work is completed, make the airbag supplemental restraint system safe. For additional information, refer to Standard Workshop Practices article
    1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check for any Diagnostic trouble code(s) relating to the front seat forward-rearward motor.

      Are there any Diagnostic trouble code(s) set relating to the front seat forward-rearward motor?

      Yes:  Rectify the Diagnostic trouble code(s) before continuing with this pinpoint test.

      No:  GO to  A2.

  2. A2: CHECK FOR DEBRIS OBSTRUCTING SEAT MOVEMENT 
    1. Check for debris obstructing seat movement

      Is the front seat forward-rearward movement obstructed by debris?

      Yes:  Remove obstruction, cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A3.

      No:  GO to  A3.

  3. A3: CHECK FRONT SEAT FORWARD-REARWARD SEAT MOTOR 
    WARNING: When carrying out the following steps, stand clear of all moving parts and make sure link harness is routed accordingly

    1. Inspect the front seat forward-rearward shaft connection with seat track gear housing and motor

      Is the front seat forward-rearward flex shaft disengaged?

      Yes:  Re-engage the flex shaft and GO to  A4.

      No:  GO to  A5.

  4. A4: CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SEAT TRACK 
    1. Operate the seat front seat forward-rearward motor and check that the seat track moves in parallel.

      Does the front seat forward-rearward motor operate as expected?

      Yes:  Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A5.

      No:  Install a new seat track, cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A5.

  5. A5: INSPECT MOTOR TRAY FOR ANY DAMAGE 
    1. Inspect the motor tray for cracks or damage

      Were any cracks or damage identified that could affect the function of the forward-rearward motor operation?

      Yes:  GO to  A6.

      No:  GO to  A7.

  6. A6: INSPECT MOTOR TRAY INTEGRITY

    1. Inspect the integrity of the motor tray

      Is the motor tray in a serviceable condition?

      Yes:  GO to  A7.

      No:  Install a new seat track, cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A7.

  7. A7: INSPECT THE SEAT TRACK RAIL SPINDLE FOR DAMAGE 
    1. Inspect the seat track rail spindle for any damage that could obstruct the movement of the forward-rearward motor

      Was any damage identified to the seat track rail spindle?

      Yes:  Install a new seat track, cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A8.

      No:  GO to  A8.

  8. A8: RUN ON DEMAND SELF TEST 
    1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, run an On Demand Self Test and check for any front seat forward-rearward motor related Diagnostic Trouble Code(s).

      Are there any Diagnostic trouble code(s) set relating to the front seat forward-rearward motor?

      Yes:  Rectify the Diagnostic trouble code(s) before continuing with this pinpoint test.

      No:  GO to  A9.

  9. A9: RUN THE CALIBRATION CYCLE 
    1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Calibrate Seat (0x205F). Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times.

      Does the seat forward-rearward motor operate as expected?

      Yes:  No further action required.

      No:  GO to  A10.

  10. A10: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected recline motor circuit and inspect the motor to seat module wiring harness for damage, trapped wires or disconnected connectors.

      Was a concern found with the motor to seat module wiring harness?

      Yes:  Rectify the concern found and retest the forward-rearward motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A11.

      No:  GO to  A11.

  11. A11: WIRING HARNESS ELECTRICAL CHECKS 
    NOTE: Make sure a battery support unit is connected and a battery reference voltage is obtained
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, complete a voltage test at the motor, test the positive and the ground of the motor and operate the forward-rearward switch in the forward direction and hold for five seconds, battery voltage should be observed.

      Was battery voltage found?

      Yes:  GO to  A12.

      No:  GO to  A16.

  12. A12: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected forward-rearward motor connector and check for damage.

      Was any damage identified at the wiring harness connector?

      Yes:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A13.

      No:  GO to  A13.

  13. A13: FORWARD-REARWARD MOTOR CONNECTOR INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Check the male connector pins on the forward-rearward motor.

      Was a concern identified with the male pins?

      Yes:  Install a new front seat forward-rearward motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A14.

      No:  GO to  A14.

  14. A14: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.

      Were any pins found to be loose?

      Yes:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A16.

      No:  Install a new front seat forward-rearward motor. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected, raise a Technical Assistance (TA) and report all of the above findings and information.

  15. A15: WIRING HARNESS ELECTRICAL CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, complete a voltage test at the seat module, test the positive and the ground of the motor and operate the forward-rearward switch in the forward direction and hold for five seconds, battery voltage should be observed.

      Was battery voltage found?

      Yes:  GO to  A16.

      No:  GO to  A17.

  16. A16: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Inspect the motor to module wiring harness for damage, crushed wires or corrosion.

      Was any damage, crushed wires or corrosion identified?

      Yes:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A17.

      No:  GO to  A17.

  17. A17: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, refer to the affected forward-rearward motor connector at the seat module and inspect for damage.

      Was any damage identified at the connector?

      Yes:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A18.

      No:  GO to  A18.

  18. A18: SEAT MODULE CONNECTOR INTEGRITY CHECK 
    1. Inspect the male connector pins on the seat module.

      Was a concern identified with the male pins?

      Yes:  Install a new front seat module. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A19.

      No:  GO to  A19.

  19. A19: WIRING HARNESS INTEGRITY CHECKS 
    1. Complete a connector pin drag test of the seat wiring harness female pins to identify any loose pins.

      Were any pins found to be loose?

      Yes:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected GO to  A20.

      No:  GO to  A20.

  20. A20: WIRING HARNESS ELECTRICAL CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagram, measure the positive and ground at the seat module and check that the positive and ground are present at the seat module.

      Were the positive and ground present at the module?

      Yes:  Install a new front seat module. Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected, raise a TA  and report all of the above findings and information.

      No:  Complete a wiring harness repair as required Refer to: WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY . Cycle the ignition twice, operate the forward-rearward motor to it's full extent of travel in both directions five times. If the forward-rearward motor operates as expected no further action is required. If the forward-rearward motor fails to operate as expected, raise a TA  and report all of the above findings and information.
