The second row seat is manufactured from high strength steel extrusions that are joined at each end with a high strength steel bracket and pivot. The seat frame provides location for the seat foam for the cushion and backrest. The seat foam is covered with a tailored seat cover.

The second row seat has a 40/20/40 split configuration and is designed to fold completely flat to the floor, in order to increase loadspace capacity.

The second row seat release mechanism is also accessible from the loadspace.

The central 20% section of the seat backrest can be lowered using a latch release on the top of the seat. This provides additional loadspace capacity. Dependent on vehicle specification, a center seat armrest is located in the second row seat backrest between the 2 outer seats

The second row seat backrest recline switches are in the lower second row seat trim. Each switch raises or reclines the second row seat backrest through an angle of 7°.

The second row seat backrest recline motor turns a worm drive which moves the second row seat striker forwards or backwards. The movement of the second seat striker moves the second row seat backrest through its tilt angle.

The power supply for the second row seat backrest recline motor is provided from the Rear Junction Box (RJB) and is forwarded to the second row seat backrest recline switch. During operation, the second row seat backrest recline switch transmits the power supply to the second row seat backrest recline motor. The ground returns from the second row seat backrest recline motor to the switch. To reverse the direction of the seat backrest movement, the second row seat backrest recline switch reverses the polarity of the power and ground signal. The second row seat backrest recline switch transmits the ground signal through 2 terminals, which unite into 1 wire in the wiring harness. That specific wire connects to the ground connection.

The control for the second row seat heaters are on the rear of the floor console. The signal to operate the Seat Heater Control Modules (SHCMs) is transmitted on the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus. Power supply for the second row SHCMs is provided from the RJB.
