Wheel Knuckle (G2426757): Installation

  1. CAUTION: Do not tighten the bolt at this stage.
    NOTE: This step is not required if the component is removed for access only.
    • Install the 2 rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links.
    • Install and finger tight the new nut and bolt.

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm link nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm link bolt(s) Quantity: 1.

    • Install the nut to the lower control arm.

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 6 Nm 

    • Install the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Use the special tool to install, the rear halfshaft to the rear wheel knuckle.

      Special Tool(s): 204-506/1  , 204-506/2  , 204-506/3  , 204-506/5 

    • Secure the rear upper control arm to the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the rear upper control arm to the rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to upper arm nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to upper arm bolt(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 50 Nm 

      Stage 2: 60° 

    • Remove the special tool from the rear wheel knuckle.

    • Secure the rear lower control arm to the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle bolt.

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm bolt(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 70 Nm 

      Stage 2: 240° 

    • Secure the rear shock absorber to the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the rear shock absorber to rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

      Renew Part: Rear shock absorber to wheel knuckle nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Renew Part: Rear shock absorber to wheel knuckle bolt(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 100 Nm 

      Stage 2: 240° 

    • Remove the transmission jack.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Secure the rear tie-rod to the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the rear tie-rod to the rear wheel knuckle bolt and nut.

      Renew Part: Rear tie-rod to wheel knuckle nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Renew Part: Rear tie-rod to wheel knuckle bolt(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 70 Nm 

      Stage 2: 240°

    • Reposition the rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links to the correct location.
    • Install and finger tighten the top bolt and nut.

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm link nut(s) Quantity: 1. 

      Renew Part: Rear wheel knuckle to lower arm link bolt(s) Quantity: 1. 

    • Fully tighten the 2 bolts and nuts.

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 50 Nm 

      Stage 2: 180° 

    • Secure the wheel speed sensor to the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the wheel speed sensor to rear wheel knuckle bolt.

      Torque  : 9 Nm 

    • Install the rear brake disc shield.
    • Install and tighten the 3 rear brake disc shield to rear wheel knuckle bolts.

      Torque  : 9 Nm 

  5. Install the rear brake disc.

  6. Secure the height sensor link to the rear lower arm.
  7. WARNING: This step is for core  vehicles only.
    CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the halfshaft nut.
    NOTE: Apply the brake pedal during the removal and installation of the half shaft retaining nut.

    Install a new halfshaft retaining nut.

    Renew Part: Rear halfshaft nut Quantity: 1. 

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 300 Nm 

    Stage 2Loosen: 90° 

    Stage 3: 140 Nm 

    Stage 4: 30° 

  8. WARNING: This step is for Long Wheel Base (LWB)  , SVR  and armoured  vehicles only.
    CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the halfshaft nut.
    NOTE: Apply the brake pedal during the removal and installation of the half shaft retaining nut.

    Install a new halfshaft retaining nut.

    Renew Part: Rear halfshaft nut Quantity: 1. 

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 300 Nm 

    Stage 2Loosen: 90° 

    Stage 3: 120 Nm 

    Stage 4: 60° 

  9. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE

  10. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic system, to pressurise the air suspension.

    Refer to: AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM DEPRESSURIZE AND PRESSURIZE

  11. Use the JLR approved diagnostic system, to calibrate the suspension ride height.

    Refer to: RIDE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENTS
